The late 90s and 2000s was the heyday of Time Out, the global publishing institution that paved the way for other publications and launched the career of many food writers and editors. During this time, the magazine’s Food and Drink section and its annual Guide commissioned writers from a diverse set of backgrounds to evaluate the growing London restaurant scene, not just in its centre but also in its outer boroughs.

Two years after the print magazine was closed, its legacy continues and yet its power and reach has often been overlooked. Vittles' founder and writer Jonathan Nunn, along with Time Out’s former food and drink editor, Guy Dimond, and former contributers, Anne Faber and Roopa Gulati, explores the magazine's influence, and how it inspired a generation of future restaurant writers and publications.

Included in Food Season Big Weekend Saturday or Weekend tickets, or available to book as a single session. Discounts available for over 60s and BL Members and half-price tickets for students and under 26s

Doors open at 10:45. Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start time of this event.

Jonathan Nunn is an award-winning food and city writer from London. He is the founder and co-editor of Vittles, the online food magazine, and the editor of London Feeds Itself

Guy Dimond was Time Out's Food and Drink Editor and principal restaurant, cafe and gastropub critic from 1998-2015. During that time, and the decade before that when he was a reviewer for the Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide, he reviewed around 5,000 venues in London. He still likes to explore places with interesting food cultures.

Anne Faber is a TV chef and food journalist based in Luxembourg. Born and raised in Luxembourg, Anne spent 12 years in the UK to pursue her university studies and journalism career. Anne worked as a TV producer for international TV channels in London, and worked on Time Out London's Food & Drink section from 2010-2012. In 2010, she started her award-winning food blog Anne’s Kitchen. Anne has published 5 cookbooks and has a regular prime time TV show on RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg, which has been running for 12 years.

Brought up in Cumbria, Roopa Gulati lived in India for two decades, working as a chef at the Taj Hotel, and as a writer and broadcaster. On her return to the UK, she was Food Editor at UKTV’s Good Food Channel and a restaurant reviewer with Time Out for 15 years. She researches material for TV shows, contributes recipe features to food publications, and is the author of India: The World Vegetarian, (Bloomsbury Absolute). She is currently working on a new project with the same publisher.
